# What is ThorIX? ThorIX is a replacement for a network situated in e.g. ThorDC having to do PNI across many kilometres of land just to peer with networks situated in e.g. Verne DC. Not to mention ThorIX gives smaller networks in the various facilities dotted around Iceland the opportunity of peering inside their local facility without having to do PNI (the previously only available option). Installation of L2 between facilities will have to be dependent on exchange growth and interest from larger bandwidth players (e.g. Cloudflare). We encourage interested networks to contact us to discuss integration at: - thorix@peering.is - +354 784 0020 (Kjartan) ## atNorth ICE01 (ThorDC) facility ThorIX has its first point of presence situated in Northlayer's cabinet in atNorth ICE01 in Hafnarfjörður. This is also partially where the exchange derives its name from. We hope that with time we will get to expand all across the country. ## Temporary/Public Notices `02/05/2024` ThorIX is now preparing to receive its IPv4 and IPv6 IXP PI allocation from the RIPE NCC. VLANs will be updated shortly. ## Statement on VLAN extension ThorIX does not permit members to extend its VLAN elsewhere. Extending the VLAN over a tunnel or P2P that members haven't decided is a part of the IX project is prohibited. ThorIX itself is an exchange project covering the Capital Region area meaning the exchange itself spans a fair bit of geographic distance and has its VLAN therefore extended quite a bit from site to site. This is permitted as it is done collectively by the exchange rather than privately by a single member.
